Maitake/Dancing mushroom (Grifola frondosa) (30%)
This is the most potent immuno-stimulant of all mushrooms. The compounds contained in Maitake mushroom have the capacity to stimulate immune function and inhibit tumour growth. These compounds include polysaccharides (such as beta-glucan) and high molecular weight sugar polymers.
Maitake has been shown to improve the helper T-cells counts. Researchers at the National Cancer Institute, USA, said that the Maitake extract is as powerful as the AIDS drug AZT but without its toxic side effects. In test tube experiments, D-fraction was found to enhance the activity of other immune cells as well as T-lymphocytes. Human clinical studies of patients with breast and colorectal cancers are underway in the USA.
In China, 63 patients with lung, stomach, liver cancers or leukemia that took four capsules of Maitake extract 3 times daily before meals for one to three months showed an "anticancer" effect.
Other benefits from Maitake consumption include helping diabetics
control their blood glucose levels, reducing high blood pressure and helping in weight loss. There have been no reports of side effects with Maitake mushroom consumption.
