Health Complications of Diabetes High Blood Pressure
BLOOD PRESSURE GOAL - 130 / 80 or lower
Getting your blood pressure as close to the goal as possible has a powerful effect. By keeping your blood pressure under control, you can expect a significant reduction in the risk of developing:
- heart attack
- stroke
- impaired eyesight or blindness
High blood pressure is more common in people with diabetes:
- At age 45, about 40 percent of people with diabetes have high blood pressure.
- At age 75, almost 60 percent have high blood pressure.
Get a blood pressure check every time you go to your doctor's office. If either number is higher than the recommended level of 130/80, ask your doctor to help create a plan to lower the pressure.
