Ingredient - Menthol
Menthol is a compound obtained from peppermint oil or other mint oils or made synthetically. It is an ingredient known for its cooling and antibacterial properties and often used in topical preparations to assist their permeation through the surface of the skin.
Menthol when applied gives a cooling sensation to provide temporary relief from localised pain. It has local anesthetic and counter-irritant qualities. It is often used in combination products used for relief of muscle aches, sprains, and similar conditions.
When applied to an affected area in gel form, menthol rapidly cools tendons and muscles. It causes dilation in the blood vessels that carry blood to the joints, increasing blood flow and reducing swelling. The more blood that reaches an injured area, then the more nutrients and oxygen are made available to assist the healing process.
