Oyster/Hiratake mushroom (Pleurotus ostratus) (10%)
The Oyster mushroom is a medicinal mushroom with excellent nutritional value. It contains proteinsen to assist in the (19%-30%), carbohydrates (50%-60%), 8 essential amino acids (with the excepton of Tryptophan) as well as Vitamins B1 (Thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B5 (Panthotenic acid), B7 (Biotin), C, PP and minerals such as Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Selenium, Sodium and Zinc .
Pleuran, isolated from the edible mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus, is a beta-1-3/1-6-glucan. This glucan showed anti-tumour activity at a dose as little as 0.1 mg/kg. This anti-tumour activity is analogus with that of lentinan, shizophyllan, scleroglucan. Isolated beta-glucan strongly inhibited the growth of tumour with activity of 93+/-7% at a dose of 0.2 mg/kg. Furthermore, the inhibition ratio was 74+/-10% even at a dose of 0.1 mg/kg. (Yoshioka 1984, National Cancer Research Institute, Tokyo, Japan).
